To the Cool Kids of New York,
CMJ 2010 Music Marathon & Film Festival has set up camp in your backyard!
Ready, set, AWESOME.
For those of you who don’t know, CMJ is one of the world’s most important festivals for the discovery of new music and film. Over the next five days (10/19-10/23), there will be 1200 live performances from over 30 countries in more than 75 of New York City’s greatest venues and theaters, drawing 120,000 music fans, music business professionals, college radio tastemakers, press, artists, filmmakers, and industry icons to New York.
For those of you who work at a college radio station, or blog about music, or maybe even rock out in a band that is a part of the marathon, CMJ is a five day party in your favorite funhouse. You know where to go, who to watch, and anticipate discovering some fantastic new finds. For those of you who may feel slightly more intimidated when looking at the CMJ Schedule (Yikes!) Here are some helpful hints for navigating the musical maze:
NARROW YOUR CHOICES.
STEP #1 – Pick one show you want to see. (per night…)
STEP #2 – Look up other acts playing in that venue’s line up and in venues nearby.
STEP #3 – Wear comfortable shoes.
STEP #4 – Go. Rock out! If the fancy strikes, roll out to venues nearby. Chances are, you will happen upon some exciting new music.
