Spring 2011 Auditions

King’s Crown Shakespeare Troupe – The Taming of the Shrew
Monday, Jan. 24-Wednesday, Jan. 26
8-11pm in Hamilton Hall
Prepare a 1 minute Shakespeare monologue or read from the provided sides. EVERYONE WILL BE CAST!

CU Players – Melancholy Play and The Night Thoreau Spent in Jail
Tuesday, Jan. 25-Thursday, Jan. 27
8-11pm on the 3rd floor of Hamilton Hall
Prepare a 1-2 minute monologue of any style. Monologues do not need to be memorized, and though your own material is preferred sides will also be provided. Only one audition is required to be considered for both shows.

Columbia Musical Theatre Society – The Wedding Singer
Tuesday, Jan. 25-Thursday, Jan. 27
8-11pm in Hamilton Hall
Prepare two selections of 16 bars from songs of contrasting style. Bring your sheet music because accompaniment will be provided. If you do not have music, don’t worry though, you may also sing a cappella.

Columbia University Medical Center – Vagina Monologues
Wednesday, Jan.  26 from 9am-11am, Thursday, Jan. 27 from 7pm-9pm, and Saturday, Jan. 29 from 12pm-2pm
Bard Hall Music Room (through the main lounge area)
Be prepared to read two monologues that will be provided to you upon arrival.

 

 

Production/Design Interviews:
CMTS – The Wedding Singer
Tuesday, Jan. 25-Wednesday Jan. 26
6-8pm in Hamilton Hall
No preparation is necessary. Just come on over to Hamilton to interview for production, design, and assistant positions.

The 117th Annual Varsity Show Designer Interviews
Tuesday, Jan. 25-Wednesday Jan. 26
8-11pm in Hamilton Hall
To interview to be a designer for the 117th Annual Varsity Show just stop by Hamilton. No preparation is required for the interview.

KCST – Taming of the Shrew and Egg and Peacock
To be considered for the production or design team of Taming of the Shrew, just show up at auditions (Jan. 24-25, 8-11pm) and say you are interested in interviewing.
KCST also needs directors for Egg and Peacock, its 24-hour play festival! To interview email eggandpeacock6@gmail.com by 10pm on Thursday, Jan. 27 to set up an interview. You can also drop-in between 8 and 10pm this Thursday for walk-in interviews.

CUP – Melancholy Play and The Night Thoreau Spent in Jail
To interview to be a member of the production or design team, just show up on any of the audition days (Jan. 25th-27th at 8-11pm) and say you are there to interview!

Bard Hall Players – Director Proposals
The Bard Hall Players of the Columbia Medical School are currently accepting submissions to direct their spring show which runs Apr. 21-23. Email hayleyborn@gmail.com if you are interested in directing or have any questions. Genre is flexible and if you are interested please contact the Players even if you do not yet have a specific show in mind.

 

 

Writing/Composing Submission Deadlines:
Columbia University Performing Arts League – Lee Bollinger’s Rock and Roll Jamboree
Composers can submit their original songs to be performed as part of Lee Bollinger’s Rock and Roll Jamboree, a CUPAL Special Project. Email your song recording, the lyrics, and sheet music (if possible) to TheLeeJamboree@gmail.com by Tuesday, Jan. 25. Songs in all stages of completion welcomed – feel free to submit a work in progress.

KCST – Egg and Peacock
Plays for Egg and Peacock are written during the 24-hour festival, but you first must apply. To write for the festival please email eggandpeacock6@gmail.com by 11:59pm on Wednesday, Jan. 26. KCST will set up a time with you and will then send you a prompt. Composers are also wanted for a mini-musical as part of the festival, and should apply the same way as writers.

NOMADS (New and Original Material Authored and Directed by Students) – Wordplay
NOMADS is accepting submissions for its annual spring play festival, Wordplay. You may submit a draft of a play you have written, or just an idea for a play you would like to write. Submissions are due this Wednesday, Jan. 26 by 11:59pm.

LateNite Spring Anthology
LateNite is now accepting plays for its spring anthology of plays. The only requirement is that plays be shorter than 30 minutes. Submission deadline is Saturday, Jan. 29 at 11:59pm.

Black Theatre Ensemble – New Play Festival
BTE is accepting plays for its new play festival. Submission of plays is due February 4.

Make sure your performance information is listed on Columbia Performs!, check to make sure your group’s information is accurate on Columbia Arts Groups and Resources A-Z, and check out CUarts’s Guides to Producing Events on Campus.
